Our Story
Schwartzmiller Ground Maintenance was established in 1991 by former Owner and Company Founder, Bob Schwartzmiller. Bob started plowing snow on a part time basis while working his full time job. In 2003, Bob launched the landscaping division of SGM, at that time, making SGM his full time commitment.
In May of 2015, Schwartzmiller Ground Maintenance had grown to a size that we decided to incorporate and became Schwartzmiller Ground Maintenance, LLC. At that time, Bob hired General Manager Brian Barus to run the day to day operations of the Company. In just 4 short years, Brian had grown the Company over 200%. At that point, SGM had blossomed into a major player in the Pittsburgh market and in 2019 SGM was named among the Top100 Snow Removal Companies in North America by Snow Magazine!
On January 1, 2023 the company was purchased by former General Manager, Brian Barus. Brian has been in the landscaping and snow removal industry since 1999 and has a vast background not only in landscaping and snow removal, but also in heavy equipment, pipeline, tree service, customer service, and business management. Now the Owner and Managing Member, Brian has big plans for the Company. Short term plans include relaunching the SGM hardscape division after surviving the pandemic and labor crisis and the addition of a full service tree division.
We take great pride in our company history and never forget where we came from. We are blessed to have such a wonderful crew of 15 full time employees, 20 seasonal employees, and a top notch network of 20+ subcontractors! Commercial Customer #1 from 32 years ago when it all began is still maintained by SGM!
