Here are some important tips to help you get the most out of your mulch.
Many mulch and landscape supply yards have begun to grind pallets and storm-damage-cleanup into their mulch in order to cut down on their cost. This results in a dramatic decrease in the quality of the mulch you will be working with. SGM takes pride in not cutting cost and thus offering you the best quality mulch material possible.
If you are planning on mulching around your home there are a few things that weather patterns could do that might make you want to think twice about which mulch you choose to put down. A coarse, single ground material would be better to use if you are mulching a hillside that rain will continually run down. A coarse material will stay in place and will not be blown around by wind. A double-shredded material is better for plant life.
Don’t Crowd Your Flowers
It is important to keep in mind that you should not crowd your plants when you are mulching. Mulch should slope down to the base of the flower and not be a mound around the plant. Mulching too close to the base of the flower is destructive to plant life.
Keep Mulch Vibrant
To get the most out of your mulch, there is one easy thing you can do to ensure your mulch remains looking new and vibrant. We recommend that a couple times a month you “turn” your mulch. This is a very simple process that will only take a few minutes per bed and will make your home look like it was freshly mulched once again. Simply take a leaf rake out to your existing mulch beds and lightly rough up the mulch. This will turn over what is on top and bring mulch up from the bottom that has yet to be faded by the sun. You’ll be left with a vibrant color similar to when it was first applied to your landscape design.
